I've been a bit slack lately updating the website so here are the latest happenings in the world of Cori.

LAST NZ SHOWS
These are the dates for my last BIG shows in NZ. I'll be doing short sets throughout the month but these are the big one hour solo shows.

Auckland - July 15th @ The Classic Studio, 8.30pm
Wellington- July 27th @ San Francisco Bathouse, 8.30pm
Queenstown - July 28th and 29th @ The Spire Hotel, 9pm

2006 NZ INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL
What We Do In The Shadows, a film by Oscar Nominee Taika Waititi and comedian Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) is screening at this years NZ film fest. I'm in this movie so get along to watch it. It is one of the funniest things i've ever seen. If anyone is familiar with Taika and Jemaines Billy T Award winning comedy duo, The Humourbeasts, this will be right up your alley. It's screening this month at the City Gallery Cinema in Wellington.

UK TRIP
As some of you might or might not know, I'm off to the UK for a few months to do comedy. I'll be performing all over the UK including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I'll also be going overseas as far as Bahrain (Middle East) and the Channel Islands to perform. As I said, I'm all over the place doing gigs most nights of the week so for gig info check out my calendar on www.myspace.com/corimacuer.

I won the Billy T Award!

I'm happy to say that I am the official 2006 Billy T Award winner. For those who have never heard of this, it's the most prestigious award in NZ Comedy with previous winners including Brendhan Lovegrove, Ben Hurley, Ewen Gilmour, Te Radar, Sugar and Spice, Taika Cohen, Jemaine Clement and many more great comics. I took home the coveted yellow towel and a good amount of cash moneys. I'd like to thank all the people who helped me out with my show especially Cam Smither and Noor Razzak for editing my films, Steve Wrigley for being my partner in crime and Ben Hurley who is the main reason I got into comedy and kept doing it. There's no way I would have won the award without him. I'm off to the U.K in July with gigs lined up in England, Glasgow and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which will be awesome. On a separate note, my show The Neverending Cori received a 5 star review from BBC4 who labelled the show "Fantastic!".

Flavour of the Month

I'm not one to blatantly promote myself but this month is different as I am this months Cleo magazine "flavour of the month". The only reason I'm posting this blog is because May has always been a good month for me over the years and I'm glad to finally be getting the recognition I have deserved all along. I have always had a good flavour in the month of May and now it's official. About time.

The Neverending Cori tickets

Tickets are now on sale for my NZ International Comedy Festival show, The Neverending Cori.

I'm only doing doorsales for my Wellington season at San Francisco Bathouse on May 24th and 25th. Alternatively, you can book tickets via this website. Simply leave your name and email address in the comment box and I'll get back to you with a confirmation.

My Auckland tickets are being sold by Ticketek and have already started selling more than 6 weeks away from opening night so get in quick! My Auckland season runs from May 31st-June 3rd at The Classic Studio. Contact Ticketek on 09 307 5000.

THE SUAVE JOCKEYS ARE AWESOME

After only 2 gigs, my musical comedy band The Suave Jockeys have had our first and probably best review to date. Jules Van Cruysen from Salient reviewed our show at Bodega Comedy Underground last week. Here it is.

"The show was kicked off by MC and Billy T nominee James Nokise who performed mostly older stock material while trying out a little bit of new stuff on the audience. First up was Jesse Mulligan, of More FM fame, who performed a very entertaining little set, followed by Cameron "Pinchey" Murray who proceeded to make fun of MC James Nokise, much to the audience delight. Finally came The Suave Jockeys (that's us), a musical three-man team comprised of the second Billy T nominee of the night Cori Gonzalez-Macuer (that's me), Jarrod Baker from the award winning duo, Mrs Peacock and Matiaha "Mutts" Paku. These guys were wickedly funny, performing the other members' songs (and one Latino cover) like they were their own. They performed a beautiful rendition of the Japanese version of Cori's first single, Save the Rhino Japan. They brought the house down with a simple, sweet song to finish their set that came complete with the quite memorable line: "Jesus raped me." I understand if you don't find this funny but, quite frankly, I do"

I've got a headache now from typing this out. I should have cut and pasted it.

New song on MySpace

I've just put a new song on myspace.com/corimacuer. It's called "My Baby Mama's Gone (Lou Reed version)". It's about a dark day back in 2002 when I went camping by the Waikato River with my ex-girlfriend. The song has been online for half an hour and has already had 7 listens and 1 download. That alone should tell you how awesome it is.

So I'm a recording artist. Get over it!

I am happy to tell you that I am now sitting amongst the likes of Johnny Cash, John Stamos, David Bowie and Jack Johnson in the living room of recording artists. I recently recorded my song "Save the Rhino Japan (Japanese version)", which you can hear at myspace.com/corimacuer. I also filmed a music video for it (above) which will be seen in the first webisode of www.rhinoradar.com. The song is in Japanese but it makes total sense. My Japanese fan base probably loves it. Which reminds me, Hidoshi, has your sister said anything about me?

The world of comedy will no longer be the same! April 13th will see the launch of rhinoradar, a brand new comedy show being broadcast exclusively through the internet. The show is being produced by comedian Steve Wrigley and myself. We have put together a team of the finest writers, actors, comedians and filmmakers from around Wellington to prove that comedy in NZ can be good. This is our chance to move away from the Facelift bullshit that has long stained NZ comedy with an uncensored, no holds barred showcase of what real comedy is about. The show will consist of sketches, interviews, music videos, live stand-up and documentaries, amongst many other things. The official launch will be on April 13th at San Francisco Bathouse (formerly Indigo Bar) with a webisode preview and a life changing comedy show. This will also be a fundraiser for the site.

Production started a few weeks ago and the first week of filming is already under our belt. Im pretty sure this will be awesome so get your friends together and come along on April 13th!

Is the Apocalypse Near?

The bible and sceptics have long stated that the end of the world will come at a time of extreme unrest. This decade has seen the world be torn apart by September 11, the war on Iraq, the London Bombings, the asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, making this decade one of the least peaceful in recent history. Now, rubbing salt into the barely healed wounds of society, comes the shocking news that Scott Stapp (former frontman for Christian rockers and worst band ever, Creed) has released a solo album. The book of Revelation predicted the latest chain of natural disasters and in a recent discovery, might be predicting the final chapter in the book called Earth.

Revelation 7:13 states
"The end of the world will happen when Scott Stapp releases a solo album."

As long as we spend time with our families, we will be fine.

"Celebrity" Debate

For those that might be interested, I will be doing the Victoria University Orientation "Celebrity" comedy debate on Thursday March 2nd. The topic this year is, "Tui beer is brewed by gorgeous women". I will be going against this genius statement. Other "Celebrity" debaters include the guys from the Tui ads, MP Georgina Beyer (left) and fellow comics Steve Wrigley and Jerome Chandrahassen. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can approach this debate, feel free to comment below and I shall have a look and quickly dismiss your opinions.

The debate will be held at the Victoria University Memorial Theatre at 6.30pm. It will be on before my Orientation comedy show at the Union Hall which starts at 8pm.

The Neverending Cori will be debuting at the 2006 NZ International Comedy Festival. This is a draft copy of my poster. I still have to fill the bottom of it. It looks pretty cool I reckon. Full respect goes to my brother Pablo for doing the drawing of me.
